Go Hearst!
Another satisfying episode last night, except that when they end, I always want more! So Logan was a jerk to Hannah, but he couldn't live with it. See, he's really not a bad guy, he just needs the love of a good woman. Sadly his good woman got shipped across the continent for it. Hopefully, they won't let that stop him. He is rich and plane flights aren't that expensive. Plus there's always email and phone calls. I like Hannah alot; she's good for Logan. I don't want to see her leave. Sadly, Veronica failed to find the real rapist in the episode mystery, but it wasn't a total bust. She did shut down the pervy frat and prevent a mis-justice. I think we know where Veronica's going to school next season. It's almost like she's a deer in the headlights. And I don't think Don Lamb will win re-election when his current term is up. "18's legal" doesn't make a very good campaign slogan.

They're stripperific!
Does anyone ever think something like this is in good taste?
Now this pair is advertised as perfect for weddings...

It was a good birthday
I drank Duvel and watched a great episode of Veronica Mars. I think I'm coming to like this season better than last. I'm really liking Hannah and we see that Logan isn't entirely evil. He's really amoral, not evil. He doesn't seem to want to hurt people without cause, but he's nihlistic and directionless. Not surprising for a kid with his life. Wednesday, March 22, 2006
Happy Birthday to Me!
It's been a pretty good birthday all told. I got a very nice "awakening present" this morning from my honey!

For a warm afternoon

I could just see myself standing at the railing of a steamship on my way to Europe wearing this dress, perhaps with the hat I mentioned in an earlier entry.

Hat's on!

I like hats but they're hardly practically anymore what with driving in cars everywhere instead of going via carriage or horseback, and modern well heated buildings in stead of drafty old manors and cottages. I think hats began to lose their practicality around the end of the nineteenth century. After that they moved to mere adornment and were then discarded.

Here's the shoes, now for the dress!
Manolo the Shoeblogger recommended these shoes for wearing to a baby's christening, but now what dress to wear with them?

So I propose to find a dress to go with them! I was thinking of a sheath dress with an empire length jacket in the same robin's egg blue as the shoes. It needs some trim work to match the trim on the shoes.
This one might work, but it's really not what I wanted.

This is closer, but not the type of jacket I wanted, and of course not the right color.

Still, a nice dress which would make me happy.

Now I love this dress! It's probably the closest to what I was thinking of, dress-wise. It still doesn't have the jacket I wanted, and again, it's not the right color.

Disappointed
I'm sort of disappointed with Kristen Bell, star of Veronica Mars. I've found out that she's a vegetarian and she posed for Maxim. Why, Kristen, why? I know why I guess. Vegetarianism is the PC thing for all the sophisticated kids to do. No big deal. Posing for Maxim is what really bugs me. It gives a false feeling of stength and control over your life and men. You get a euphoric sense of being in control, when in reality you're not. It's rather like an eating disorder, or smoking, or a myriad of other self-destructive behaviours that people do. Kristen could have set a better example for all the teenage girls who watch her show. Instead she chose the same path that's been followed by every pretty girl who wants to be famous before her. And she had no need to! She has real talent.
What I find really interesting is that I don't think the character Veronica Mars would ever pose for Maxim. I think she would find it belittling, demeaning, and self-abasing (which it is). So when the actress who plays Veronica does, it gives the lie to Veronica as role model. It sends the subtle signal that strong, self-confident, self-respecting women are just fantasy, and that in reality, a woman's only value is as eye candy.
Danica Patrick did the exact same thing by posing for FHM. She did an amazing job in the Indy 500, performing excellently for a rookie, but when it's all over because she's pretty, she's still just a sex object. I understand FHM wanting to do a piece on her -- she's a race car driver. But why couldn't it have been like they would do with any other race car driver? Again, her real value was as eye candy.
And no, I'm not saying this just because I'm not pretty enough to pose for Maxim!

Veronica Mars tonight
I'm listening to Veronica Mars radio on Live365 where they just played a promo for tonights episode. It sounds pretty good. They're coming back around to the season mystery and heating up the story line. I can't wait for 9pm!

I wish I'd been more like Veronica when I was in high school. Even being as popular as she is would have been an improvement!
Update: Grrrrrr! It was a re-run! And I don't think it was the one the advert. was for.
